Sip, Sweat, and Save the planet
Sometimes people ask us why our sports water isn’t available in a bottle. We all know that sweating it out at the gym and pushing our limits requires proper rehydration. So why not make it easy with a grab-and-go solution? But here’s the thing: we shouldn’t tolerate hydration from single-use plastic bottles any longer. Yanga is here to encourage everyone to embrace reusables. Let us explain why.
First, the bad news
It’s a bit grim, but we need to face the reality before we can work on a solution. Let’s look at the troubling facts about single-use plastics.
Consider this: According to Earthday.org, a shocking 79% of all the plastic ever made still sits in landfills or the natural environment, with only a small percentage being incinerated or recycled. Despite the massive energy consumption required to produce and transport plastic water bottles (enough to power about 1.5 million cars for a year), roughly 75% of these bottles are not recycled (source: WWF). Instead, they pile up in landfills, clutter our roadsides, and pollute our oceans and waterways. What’s worse, it can take over 400 years for these bottles to break down.
But that’s not the worst of it. Earthday.org reports that at least 14 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year, threatening marine life and human health. Microplastics, tiny particles that often go unnoticed but have a huge impact, have even been found in the most remote parts of the planet. While the headlines focus on sea creatures entangled in plastic and beaches covered with waste, it’s crucial to recognize the hidden dangers of microplastics beneath the surface.
Be part of the solution with Yanga
At Yanga, we believe that single-use plastics are a thing of the past. Since 2010, our sports water has been packaging-free – your favorite flavor is created on demand at our hydration stations. Simply bring your reusable water bottle to the gym and refill with Yanga as often as you like!
It might seem like a small action, but every little bit helps! On average, you visit the gym twice a week, which equals about 8 sessions a month. With just 2 Yanga refills per session, you could save the planet from 16 single-use plastic bottles per month. That’s 192 bottles in a year! And with an average weight of 9g per 500ml plastic bottle, that adds up to 144g of plastic a month or 1.7kg a year!
What’s more, with water bottles averaging $3 each, you’re saving $12 a week, $48 a month, and $624 a year! Not only are you a green hero, but you’re also saving money.
