Sip, Sweat, and Save the planet
Sometimes people ask us why our sports water is not available in a bottle. We all know sweating it out at the gym and pushing our limits needs to be accompanied by the oh-so-important rehydration. So why not make it easy and have a grab-and-go solution ready? But here's the thing: we should no longer tolerate hydration from a single-use plastic bottle. Yanga wants to encourage everyone to full-heartedly embrace reusables. Why, you ask? Well, let us explain.
First, the bad news
It sounds a bit grim, but we need to realise what we’re dealing with before we can start working on a solution. So, let's delve into the unsettling reality of single-use plastics.
Consider this: According to Earthday.org, a staggering 79% of all the plastic ever made still sits in landfills or the natural environment, with only a small amount being incinerated or recycled. Despite the alarming energy consumption required to produce and transport plastic water bottles – an amount that could power around 1.5 million cars for a year – approximately 75% of these bottles are not recycled (source: WWF ). Instead, they clog landfills, adorn roadsides, and pollute waterways and oceans. The longevity of these bottles is equally alarming; it can take over 400 years for them to decompose.
But that's not the end of it. According to Earthday.org, at least 14 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year. This influx of plastic pollution poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems and human health. Microplastics, tiny particles often unnoticed but wielding significant impact, have been discovered even in the most remote corners of our planet. So, while sea creatures entangled in plastic or plastic-strewn beaches dominate headlines and social media, it's essential to also recognise the unseen menace of microplastics lurking beneath the surface.
Be part of the solution with Yanga
Our hydration solution is rooted in the belief that single-use plastics are naff. From day one in 2010, our sports water comes packaging-free – your favourite flavour is created on the spot in our hydration stations. Simply bring your reusable water bottle to the gym and refill with Yanga as much as you desire!
This seems like a small gesture, but every little bit helps! Picture this, on average you visit the gym 2 times a week, which equates to 8 gym sessions a month. With 2 Yanga refills per sweat sesh, you could be saving the planet from a whopping 16 single-use plastic bottles per month. That's 192 bottles in a year, give or take! And with an average weight of 9g for a 500ml plastic bottle, this equates to 144g of plastic a month or 1,7 kg per year!
What’s more, with water bottles averaging €3, you're pocketing €12 weekly, €48 monthly, and a grand total of €624 a year! And hey presto, you're not just a green hero, you're also a money-saving maestro.
